To kick off our very first interview of 2016, we are so happy to bring you celebrity yoga and pilates instructor + self-proclaimed proudest mama in the world, Kristin McGee!
Kristin's resume is stacked full of impressive talking points, including being on the fitness scene since 1997, appearing on Good Morning America, the Today Show, Footlocker ads, and she has worked with Shape and Women's Health. She also has several DVD's and now has a series with Cody App.
But aside from all of that, Kristin still seems like a down-to-earth mama who lives to help people feel their best! I think you can see why we were excited to hear what she had to say! Read on to get the inside scoop of Kristin's day-to-day!
1) What is the first thing you do in the morning when you wake up that helps kick- start your day on the right track?
I used to get up and meditate first thing in the morning; but now I end up snuggling with my 2 year old and that is my meditation! I love the smell of his hair and cuddling with him, it really gets me off to a happy start. I also make sure to eat a yummy breakfast consisting of greek yogurt, berries, walnuts, flax/coconut/chia blend (barlean’s) and dash of cinnamon with one cup of good French press coffee.
2) Do you have a go-to Motivational Mantra?
Everything you could possibly ever want, have, or need, is right here inside of you.
3) Kicking-ass in your field of expertise can sometimes be a lot of work, how do you stay connected to your center on those inevitable tough days?
I practice yoga! Even just a downdog a day makes me feel centered again. I connect to my breath and choose to find an inner smile. I also remind myself of all that I have and am grateful for. And if all else fails I run home to see my little man and everything is better again! I also call my mom☺
4) What are your MUST HAVES in your carry-on when you're about to leave town on a big jet plane?
I love Kaia juicy bamboo natural face wipes (come individually wrapped so easy to carry) and I just discovered this amazing face oil by Bloom skin essentials (http://www.bloomskinessentials.com/) I use the nourish since I tend to be dry. I also like Aura Cacia essential oils, especially the peppermint it helps with energy, nausea, hunger, time changes, you name it! And I always have a comfy pair of C9 leggings and sports bras. Oh yeah and of course a toothbrush and toothpaste, hair ties, and hopefully my son since I try to take him everywhere I go.
5) What is your favorite thing to do when you need some creative inspiration?
Does it have to be just one thing?!! I love to do any of these things: Practice yoga or Pilates on my own, take a class from someone else, get outside in nature, go home to Idaho, ski, play tennis, go to the museum, hang out with friends, listen to music, play with my son, practice the guitar.
6) What’s your best piece of advice for our younger generation when it comes to following your passion?
Never stop believing in yourself or going after what you truly want. If you are doing what you love and you have the skills and have done the research in your field, you will be successful and happy.
7) Favorite yoga pose for chillin’ out?
Supta Virasana reclined hero’s pose—this feels so good and stretches out the front body. If I really want to go inward, I’ll do a rounded plow pose and stay for 10-15 minutes even!
8) What’s the most recent inspirational book that you’ve read?
Hmm…that’s a tough one. I remember loving To Kill A Mockingbird when I was in junior High School; but recently I would have to say I really love Yeah Dave’s Guide To livin’ in the moment it’s an easy read and truly reminds me to stay present and grounded and just enjoy each and every moment. http://www.amazon.com/Yeah-Daves-Guide-Livin-Moment/dp/0767929489
9) Do you have a nightly ritual that helps clear your mind for a restful sleep, creating a productive day to follow?
I like to write at night and get all of my thoughts out, I also do the snuggling again with my son and we talk about everything we are grateful for. I listen to music or read a book and wash my face, brush my teeth, take some deep breaths and usually fall asleep quite easily.
