Jiva babes, meet Kyla Smith, the lady boss behind this one stop shop for all things fashionable activewear! We are proud to say that JIVA is now available on Evolefitwear.com, so we wanted to interview this gorgeous lady to learn more about the woman behind the leggings.

    1) What is the first thing you do in the morning when you wake up that helps kick-start your day on the right track? I make coffee, play with my dog (@brixtonthekid) and watch just a little bit of the news. I’m starting to be more of a morning person getting up early- its still a bit of a struggle.

    2) Do you have a go-to Motivational Mantra? “If you build it, they will come” (Stolen from the 90’s movie Field of Dreams). You just have to take a leap of faith and know what you are doing is the right course of action. It’s ok to over-analyze your decisions, but sometimes you just have to jump and believe you’ll land in the right spot. I read a simple quote the other day I like a lot: “Trust your instincts & stand behind your decisions.” Get past the analyzing part, and just start makin’ moves!

    3) Kicking-ass in your field of expertise can sometimes be a lot of work, how do you stay connected to your center on those inevitable tough days? I love going for long hikes outside. I’m grateful to be able to live in the Pac NW where we have beautiful outdoor hikes packed full of trees. Getting away from the electronics is important. The over-stimulus of technology on a day-to-day basis is pretty overwhelming. I bring my phone with me everywhere in case of an emergency, but I don’t listen to music, respond to messages, or even look at my phone until I’m done with “my time.”

    4) What are your MUST HAVES in your carry-on when you're about to leave town on a big jet plane? I’m embarrassed to follow up with this answer after the previous question but my real only essentials are my laptop, iPad, and all the chargers! I forget about ½ of the things I need on the trip, but I’m convinced I subconsciously do that to keep trips interesting. However, I never forget my electronics! It’s a constant struggle to not forget the electronics, but then to ignore them- haha ;)

    5) What is your favorite thing to do when you need some creative inspiration? I love talking to other people about ideas because it really gets the brain flowing and looking at a situation from a different perspective. Most of the time I will get together with someone here at Evolve. I hate to toot our own horn, but our team is amazing and they have better ideas than me!

    6) What’s your best piece of advice for our younger generation when it comes to following your passion? Well my biggest advice to get ahead in life is to not have a sense of entitlement. You have to work hard to get the things you want. Somehow the younger kids that are now teens or early 20’s have been conditioned when they are growing up that “they can get anything they want” (which is a spin off of the phrase “you can do anything you want”). But the missing link is that you have to make those things happen. The universe isn’t going to give you something you feel like you deserve. Before starting Evolve, I always had 2-3 jobs, and if I wanted to learn something I’d offer to work somewhere for free. I didn’t expect to get paid, just the knowledge and experience was the payment. (I didn’t have financial support, so I would still work another hourly job to support myself). People notice if you have a genuine interest in things and I guarantee good things will come out of that.

    7) Favorite yoga pose for chillin’ out? For chilling out? I love getting a block under my shoulder blades as a wonderful heart opener.

    8) What’s the most recent inspirational book that you’ve read? I recently read GirlBoss (really connected to Sofia and the huge empire that she’s built). I loved reading it because she really spoke about ecommerce and the (un)glamorous side of starting a business. She painted a realistic picture of being cooped up in in her apartment in a big pink bathrobe for months on end barely talking to anyone. (That was totally me too!) My all time favorite business book is Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rynd- it’s quite a hefty read, but well worth it!

    9) Do you have a nightly ritual that helps clear your mind for a restful sleep, creating a productive day to follow? Well, after dinner I always take my dog for a walk in the neighborhood, and then after that I make some tea and watch a show or two. It’s probably not as “healthy” as yoga or reading, but after a full day of staring at text on a computer, I need to do something less thought provoking. Right now I’m really into Homeland and Ray Donovan- they are sooo good!

    1) What is the first thing you do in the morning when you wake up that helps kick-start your day on the right track? Stretch, move, and listen to some happy tunes to get me excited about the day ahead.

    2) Do you have a go-to Motivational Mantra? Not a quote or quick mantra, but whenever I start to need some serious motivation, I remind myself that I am privileged to wake up each day and get to do something I choose and that I am passionate about. As a woman in this big, vast world, this freedom is a privilege, and I will not take it for granted.

    3) Kicking-ass in your field of expertise can sometimes be a lot of work, how do you stay connected to your center on those inevitable tough days? See above. That and yoga, long walks with my dogs, a call to a friend, or giving myself the permission to spoil myself with a spa service or really good dinner with a glass of wine. Self care.

    4) What are your MUST HAVES in your carry-on when you're about to leave town on a big jet plane? A good music playlist or two, a book, my om prayer scarf (see here), a bottle of water, and a journal in case I get inspired.

    5) What is your favorite thing to do when you need some creative inspiration? A hike in nature or an early morning run at La Jolla Shores in San Diego. See photo and tell me you would not be inspired.

    6) What’s your best piece of advice for our younger generation when it comes to following your passion? Be brave, but stay grounded. I believe living passionately is about having the confidence to be bold but the wisdom to stay humble.

    7) Favorite yoga pose for chillin’ out? Half pigeon for the win. Oh, how I love that pose.

    8) What’s the most recent inspirational book that you’ve read? The Alchemist by Pablo Coehlo

    9) Do you have a nightly ritual that helps clear your mind for a restful sleep, creating a productive day to follow? An evening walk with my dogs, telling the person closest to me that I love them, and taking a deep breath in and out.

Since the beginning of time, beauty has been intertwined with women, and most likely it will always be that way. And although now we have a greater acceptance of how powerful and strong women are, aside from just being beautiful, there is something innately feminine about beauty. Take away all the ego and what’s left is just a divine, beautiful woman who is influential in her own womanly ways.

This is how I see Rooted Beauty skincare. It’s a beauty/skincare company that has dropped the superficial beauty and focused on real, rooted beauty. With every RB purchase, you’re helping a woman in need escape extreme poverty with their Woman 2 Woman project and its sponsors. They essentially assign a beauty product to a woman in need, and with every purchase of that item a percentage goes towards the identified woman. You can check out how close each woman is to being funded in her dreams HERE.

That’s beauty at work. That’s Rooted Beauty.

Say Hi to Kim! I interviewed the founder, Kim Garrett, about all things Rooted Beauty, and this is what she had to say...

What is the Rooted Beauty story?

I’ve always had a passion for beauty and skincare products and wanted to start my own beauty company. When I thought about how much money goes into the beauty industry, I thought that it would be really powerfully to take even just a portion of that revenue and redistribute it to help women – so many women could be helped!

There are so many organizations doing amazing work to help empower women out of oppression; however, the organizations are always limited in their impact by the availability of funds.

It became my dream to take a portion of the billions of dollars pumped into the beauty industry and redistribute those funds to change and empower the lives of women around the world. The larger Rooted Beauty becomes, the more women’s lives will be transformed and the idea of thousands of women’s lives being transformed through the sale of skincare that is healthy and fun for consumers to use was something that I had to step out in Faith and pursue.

Where does Rooted Beauty find inspiration?

In the stories of the women whose lives we’re helping to change. Hearing the trials that these women are faced with is a constant reality check for me. It constantly inspires me to continue to work for their empowerment and freedom.

Top 3 values of Rooted Beauty?

    1. Selflessness 2. Authenticity 3. Honesty

As an entrepreneur, do you have a go-to Motivational Mantra?

“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the decision that something else is more important than fear.” ~ Ambrose Redmoon

If there is a message you could send out to the world, what would it be?

“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the decision that something else is more important than fear.” ~ Ambrose Redmoon

What is the future of Rooted Beauty?

The future is never certain, but it is my hope to transform the lives of thousands of women through innovative natural skincare!

    Alyssa’s Product Review

Products Reviewed: Kiwi Melon Calming Facial Scrub | Raspberry Citrus Invigorating Facial Exfoliator| Raspberry Citrus Invigorating Facial Wipe| Passionfruit Lip Butter

    Price: $9.99 | 5.99 | 4.99

    At First Glance:

When I first got this collection, I was super excited at how cute everything was (I’m a sucker for branding). Upon checking everything out, I was really impressed with the overall packaging; I mean how adorable are these? In my mind, better branding usually means better product because they truly care about the little things, like color and font, so imagine the detail they put into the actual ingredients!

Which brings me to just that…as soon as I opened the package, I immediately started reading all of the ingredients to give you all the best possible review…Every product is hypoallergenic, gluten free, paraben free, no chemicals, and no artificial fragrances. If it helps you trust their quality control, note that they are sold in Whole Foods.

Now let’s break down the 4 products for sake of ease.

    1) Kiwi Melon Calming Facial Scrub- LOVE IT. I started using this to replace my facial wash because I ran out, and although I was reluctant to try a new one, I found that this stuff worked just as amazing as my last facial wash. It has tiny little scrubbies, but they aren’t abrasive at all, it goes on super silky, and it also smells wonderful! Smells exactly how it’s described, Kiwi Melon! My skin is super smooth and no breakouts to be had after using it for 2.5 weeks. *Organic Goji berry used

    2) Raspberry Citrus Invigorating Facial Wipe- Overall, I like the wipes. I can’t say that I absolutely love them, but I think it’s about preference. For me, their scent is a bit strong for a facial wipe (very fragrant), and they are bubbly/sudsy without adding water; I usually buy wipes that don’t leave any type of residue, but then again, the bubbles do go away right away! It’s more or less a texture thing for me, but they certainly left my skin feeling soft, totally zapped the eye makeup, and I had a no residue feeling on my skin (you don’t need to rinse after using). This is one of their best selling products, so give it a try!

    3) Passionfruit Lip Butter- First off, I love that the packaging is biodegradable, and I know you will too. Second, I enjoyed the light smell, and it goes on nice and smooth with no clumping, but nice hydration. It’s super lightweight and slender to fit into your pockets too.*

*Here is an example of a Woman 2 Women project success story:

A portion of the proceeds for this product helped Rena receive the initial supplies and training she needed to sell vegetables in the local marketplace. The opportunity to sell in the local marketplace will enable Rena to provide for herself and her family and break free from the cycle of extreme poverty. Now Rumi will benefit from Passionfruit lip butter sales, and the cycle of giving back continues!

    Nikki’s Product Review

Products Reviewed: Raspberry Citrus Invigorating Facial Exfoliator| Raspberry Citrus Invigorating Facial Wipe| Passionfruit Lip Butter

    Price:  $9.99 | 5.99 | 4.99

    At First Glance:

I totally LOVED the packaging & vibrancy of the packaging itself. Like Alyssa, I also have a sweet spot for well thought out branding & Rooted has just that! All the information you generally want to know when immediately looking at a new product is right there on the front of the package, nothing to hide; free of chemicals, parabens & artificial fragrances. I like it!

First thing I did was pop the cap on the facial exfoliator and take a deep inhale, nothing but yummyness going on! This action ensued through the rest of the products and my nose was very pleased!

Below is my take on the products:

    1) Raspberry Citrus Invigorating Facial ExfoliatorI REALLY enjoyed this product, probably my favorite out of all 3. My skin always appreciates a good at home exfoliation & truthfully they are hard find. I always feel like if I am exfoliating and opening up my pores, I only want the best of ingredients getting inside - this product delivers. I used a small amount & it spreads easily leaving your skin smooth and fresh! I will be working this into my weekly beauty routine and plan to use it two - three times a week!

    2) Raspberry Citrus Invigorating Facial WipeLet me preface this review with the fact that I am generally not a facial wipe kind of gal. They do smell amazing and I thought I should give them a try because you never know! I was not in love with the way they made my skin feel, just a little less cleansed than the other facial products Rooted has. However, my sister Remi uses facial wipes on the regular & she really enjoyed them! She did say that they left a small feeling of stickiness, although completely removed her makeup & ready to continue on with her cleansing routine. As Alyssa mentioned, I recommend trying them out if this is a product you normally use, because they are their number one selling product!

    3) Passionfruit Lip Butter- This is a really innovative style of packaging and I do LOVE the concept of it containing no plastic & being biodegradable. The butter itself is not too overpowering in scent and glides on smoothly. The only factor that comes into play with the packaging is as you used it it tends to slide back down into the tube, but as long as you keep some pressure on the bottom then you can avoid this from happening. Overall, a great product to keep on hand!

As always, thank you so much for reading through this review and sharing with your fellow beauty babes! If you've got a product you feel compliments the JIVA Lifestyle [healthy, active & feminine] then shoot an email over to social@thejivashop.com for more information!

  • PRODUCT REVIEW | TruSelf Organics

0 comments / Posted by Alyssa Kuzins

Hey ladies! This is Remi, fellow JIVA team member, and today I'm bringing you an awesome facial mask review for your next must-have beauty item! And of course, it's from an awesome female entrepreneur, and it's all natural and organic! Meet TruSelf Organics!

What is the TruSelf Organics story?

I am a mother of two, a yogi, a health-nut, and the creator of TruSelf Organics. My inspiration for the company came after I started a popular lifestyle blog and Instagram account sharing my daily experiences as a young mother juggling a modeling career with keeping myself and my busy family balanced and healthy. Many of my followers wondered what type of beauty products I recommended, and after realizing I wasn’t satisfied with the countless chemical-laden choices on the market, I decided to create my own line made of pure, all-natural, and organic ingredients.

I believe in nurturing your body, mind, and soul by living the #Loveyourself Lifestyle. Self-love is an essential step on the path to becoming your best self. Through experience, I have found that treating your body right by eating clean, whole foods, exercising, and using all-natural and organic products is an important piece of that process.

Statistics say that the average American woman smothers her skin with over 500 different chemicals before walking out the door each morning. After researching the effects of many of these chemicals, I felt strongly encouraged to help people change the way they view skin and beauty care maintenance. TruSelf Organics was born out of the desire to create products that were not toxic to our bodies, but beneficial to our health.

Where does TruSelf Organics find inspiration?

Our mission at TruSelf Organics is to help people love themselves starting from the outside in by providing all-natural, organic, and cruelty-free skincare products and by promoting a positive, healthy lifestyle. We use no synthetic chemicals, parabans, or fragrances and we never test our products on animals. Remember, your skin is your body’s largest organ. Treat it right by using our all-natural, organic products made of only pure, safe, and simple ingredients straight from Mother Nature.

Top 3 values at TruSelf Organics?

-"No Bad Stuff" in any of our products

-#Loveyourself and the lifestyle that comes with it

-Nurture your body, mind, and soul

If there is a message you could send out to the world, what would it be?

In addition to using our products as part of your daily skincare regimen, self-love is an essential aspect of your overall health and wellbeing. That is why we promote the #Loveyourself Lifestyle. Every day our bodies are constantly exposed to harmful pollutants and must work around the clock to maintain a happy balance. Take a moment each day to treat yourself and say thank you to your body by using our all-natural and organic products.

With each purchase of TruSelf Organics products, you are making a difference and helping to improve our world by supporting the organic and cruelty-free movement.

What is the future of TruSelf Organics?

Here at TruSelf we only hope to expand our skin care product line, provide natural and cruelty-free body care to people across the world, and become a household name!

    Remis Review ::

    Detoxifying Facial Mask $22.50

I had the pleasure of using the Detoxifying Facial Mask. I was really attracted to this product because of the all-natural ingredients used. It comes with directions, which are super easy to follow - I used a tablespoon of the Face Mask Powder and a tablespoon of water. The mask is a mixture of natural clays - which feels just like that when applying it to your skin. It really brought me back to my childhood and getting messy in class! Once I had the mask on, I could feel the all- natural ingredients working their magic to tighten and pull any toxins or dirt from deep in my skin. I kept the mask on for about 15 minutes. With an easy removal of warm water, I immediately felt and saw the difference in my skin. There is nothing better than a fresh and clean face before hopping into bed or tackling your day. Their theory of #Loveyourself really shows in the product.
